Here is a recap of our Next Gen Cosplay Workshop. Seven students introduced themselves and what brought them to the workshop. Erick Rodriguez (www.imaginerick.com) gave a brief overview of the process of making a tentacle, starting with drawing lines and cutting.
All materials were provided in this workshop, so the students didn't have to worry about bringing anything. They heated the foam to shrink it around the cuts and added more foam for texture. The next step was a new tip to many of our students. Erick glued a plastic bag to add realistic skin texture to the foam. After covering the tentacles in a layer of matte medium, the students were ready to paint.
The students mixed paints for specific colors and used techniques of shading and highlighting to bring the foam to life. Eric taught them airbrush techniques, and the fine detail really made the tentacles pop. The students had a great time, made new friends, and learned techniques they could apply to future creations.
We're sad this workshop is over, but we plan to have more in the future, so follow our page and keep your eye out for announcements.
